Housing is a fundamental human necessity, essential for physical well-being and profoundly impacting the quality of life for families. Given its importance, it is crucial to consider the regional context of a city when planning housing, as the environment significantly influences the psychological well-being of its inhabitants. This dissertation focuses on the historical context of cities, particularly highlighting how this aspect is a major concern in contemporary society. Specifically, this study delves into the city of Kashan, known for its rich historical heritage. The design of residential complexes in this area is of particular interest because it must harmonize the needs of modern families with the city’s valuable historical context. Through thorough research methods and observations, the aim is to develop a solution that allows modern living to coexist with historical preservation.
The design approach seeks to incorporate architectural features from traditional Iranian houses, adapting them to meet today’s physical and psychological needs. This strategy is not only about preserving aesthetic and cultural values but also about enhancing the environmental characteristics of the area. It involves adhering to urban planning principles and criteria appropriate for a historical setting like Kashan, thereby fostering a deeper sense of belonging and connection between residents and their living environment.
In essence, the dissertation aims to bridge the gap between historical reverence and modern necessity, ensuring that new developments do not just coexist with but complement the rich cultural heritage of the city. This thoughtful integration of old and new seeks to create living spaces that are both respectful of the past and responsive to contemporary human needs, ultimately strengthening the community’s connection to its unique historical identity.
